As mentioned earlier, no matter what
the sub-genre is, all forms of YA fantasy novels include the following seven themes:
coming of age, school/training, love/romance, independence, dysfunctional
families, mental health issues, and an adventure or quest. Fantasy allows for
the young reader to escape the harsh realities of the world and escape into a
faraway place with interesting characters and situations. Readers may not be
able to identify with the characters but will appreciate a different point of
view.
My favorite authors are J. K. Rowling and Stephanie Garber. Their
writing styles are so rich in detail and makes me feel like I’m actually immersed
in the environment. They create characters that are memorable. I cannot even
begin to understand the creativity and imagination that these authors portray
through their writing.
